Paddock Pass Podcast Episode 412: Silly Season's Potential Losers, And Corrado Cecchinelli Explains The 2027 Regulations

By David Emmett | Thu, 13/Jun/2024 - 10:15

Never a dull moment in MotoGP rider negotiations at the moment. So much so that the Paddock Pass Podcast is at risk of being overtaken by events as we discuss the potential losers of MotoGP silly season, and who stands to lose their job. Adam, David, Neil, and Steve talk what will happen to Jack Miller, Augusto Fernandez, Raul Fernandez, Joan Mir, and Alex Rins for next season, and where they might end up.

And David sits down for a long interview with MotoGP Director of Technology Corrado Cecchinelli to ask about the 2027 MotoGP regulations. By now, we know what has been decided - no ride-height devices, less aerodynamics, 850cc engines, and less fuel - but how exactly do you go about banning ride-height devices without clever engineers finding a way around the restrictions? Cecchinelli explains all this and more.

Tyres in 2027

With the reduction in engine capacity from 1000cc to 850cc we should see a drop in power and torque to the tune of 15 percent. Given current tyre technology we can expect the tyres to last longer and also support higher corner speeds. This is more than likely to lead to one line racing as experienced during the 850cc era. Has anyone considered reducing the max rim widths to counterbalance this?
