2025 Portimão WorldSBK January Test Day 2 Times: Rain Disrupts Testing

By David Emmett | Wed, 29/Jan/2025 - 17:44

The weather has not looked kindly on testing for the WorldSBK series so far in 2025. After a windy but relatively dry day on Tuesday, testing on Wednesday was mostly wet, with only occasional dry spells. Even when the track was dry, the times were 1.6 seconds off Toprak Razgatlioglu's best time.

As a result, nine of the 21 WorldSBK riders who rode on Tuesday decided to sit out the Wednesday session and save their testing days, while Philipp Oettl was the only WorldSSP rider of the six who rode on Tuesday to take to the track on Wednesday.

As a result of the conditions, the times are relatively meaningless. Alex Lowes put the Bimota on top of the timesheets, five thousandths of a second faster than Toprak Razgatlioglu on the BMW. Alvaro Bautista was nearly a second slower than Lowes, suffering a big highside during the day, but getting back on and riding again. Bautista expects to be fit for the final test at Phillip Island on February 17th and 18th, ahead of the opening round on February 23rd.
