It has been a tough start to the WorldSBK season for both Toprak Razgatlioglu and Jonathan Rea. Razgatlioglu broke a finger in a training crash and missed the first test at Jerez, then started off the first session at Phillip Island with a highside, forcing him to miss the morning session. He returned in the afternoon and ended up third fastest
Things have been much worse for Jonathan Rea. The Pata Yamaha rider has struggled in preseason testing, and then suffered a huge highside in the morning session in which he broke several bones in his left foot. He has been ruled out of the season opener which starts this weekend.
Ducatis dominated on the first day of testing, Nicolo Bulega comfortably fastest and half a second clear of Andrea Iannone, who is something of a specialist around Phillip Island. Razgatlioglu took third spot, ahead of Danilo Petrucci and Alvaro Bautista. Alex Lowes put the new Bimota KB998 into sixth place.
One more day of testing remains, before the teams kick off the 2025 WorldSBK season at the weekend.
