Jorge Martin Breaks Left Wrist, To Miss Buriram MotoGP Opener

By David Emmett | Mon, 24/Feb/2025 - 18:16

Jorge Martin has suffered a further setback to the start of his career with Aprilia. The reigning world champion has fractured a number of bones in his left wrist in a training accident. He is to miss the opening round of MotoGP at Buriram after surgery.

Martin was already recovering from breaking his right hand in an early crash at the Sepang test. The Spaniard has now also fractured his left radius and scaphoid. The scaphoid is a particularly troublesome bone to break, as it takes a very long time to heal, having little blood flow.

Martin is set to have surgery to fix the scaphoid and radius on Tuesday. There is as yet no schedule for his return to racing.

A statement from Aprilia appears below:

How Does The MotoGP Engine Development Freeze For 2025 And 2026 Work?

By David Emmett | Mon, 24/Feb/2025 - 09:00

In any other season, the MotoGP engine homologation rules are relatively straightforward. Or as straightforward as they can be when engines are sealed and set for a single season, with concessions for underperforming manufacturers.

But the imminent change of technical regulations for the 2027 season has added another layer of complexity. To reduce costs, and prevent factories from having to develop an engine for the 2026 season, as well as a completely new 850cc engine with a maximum bore of 75mm, engine development is also frozen for the 2026 season.

What this means in practice is that the engine design manufacturers in Concessions Categories A, B, and C (Ducati, KTM, and Aprilia) present for homologation before the opening grand prix of the 2025 season at Buriram in Thailand will have to remain unchanged for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

Trust the process

That sounds simple, but there is a little more to it than that. So I have set out the process below.

Augusto Fernandez To Replace Jonathan Rea In Portimão

By David Emmett | Sun, 23/Feb/2025 - 10:40

The foot injury which Jonathan Rea suffered in preseason testing at Phillip Island will force him to miss at least the first two rounds of the 2025 WorldSBK season. The Pata Yamaha rider fractured several bones in his left foot, requiring surgery, which he had back at home in Northern Ireland. The recovery period for that injury is such that the Northern Irishman is to miss both the Portimão WorldSBK test on March 14-15, and the second WorldSBK round at the Portuguese circuit on the weekend of March 30th.

Yamaha's newly signed test rider Augusto Fernandez is to substitute for the injured Rea. The young Spaniard, who lost his ride with the Tech3 KTM MotoGP team last year, has been busy testing for Yamaha's MotoGP project, but he will take Rea's place on the Yamaha R1 for both the test and the race at Portimão.

2025 Phillip Island World Superbike Superpole Race Result: Third Sprint Of The Weekend

By Jared Earle | Sun, 23/Feb/2025 - 02:54

The first World Superbike sprint race seems like the third after a race split by a pit stop gave us two sprints yesterday. The weather is 21ºC and the track is cooler than yesterday. A headwind into turn one replaces yesterday's tailwind. Perfect conditions make beating Bulega tricky, but everyone has ten laps to try. The top nine grid positions for the last race of the weekend are determined by the results of this race.
