2025 Sepang MotoGP Shakedown Test Day 2 Times - Rins Puts Yamaha At Top

It was a busier on track on the second day of the shakedown test at Sepang, as the Friday crew were joined by the four Yamaha contracted riders, plus Honda test rider Aleix Espargaro and rookie Somkiat Chantra. The Honda HRC Castrol riders were not at the track, as they were presenting their new 2025 livery in Jakarta Indonesia. They are only expected to take to the track at next week's official IRTA test.

Pit Beirer On KTM's MotoGP Future: "Racing Is Part Of Our Business Model"

Unsurprisingly, when KTM's press officer started the online debriefs with journalists at the KTM launch, we were told that neither the riders nor the team managers would be able to comment on the Austrian manufacturer's financial woes. That would have to wait until KTM's Sporting Director Pit Beirer spoke to us at the end of the day (and once his computer had finished rebooting itself for the umpteenth time). But Beirer was very forthcoming about the current situation, KTM's future plans, and how they are approaching the coming season and beyond.

"It’s been a rough winter," Beirer said with a feeling for understatement. "But it’s nice to talk about racing." Racing is what KTM does, and what they will continue to do, he insisted. "Motorsport is a major part of our company. It’s not just our passion – it’s part of our business model. We go racing. Attached to our racing activities, there is a market. We wouldn’t be part of this restructuring [process] if that wasn’t the case."

2025 Sepang MotoGP Shakedown Test Day 1 Times - Track Action Resumes

The 2025 MotoGP season is nearly underway, with test riders and rookies on track for the first day of the shakedown test ahead of the official IRTA MotoGP test. The first day is always a genuine shakedown, as test riders take multiple bikes out to ensure they are working properly. The rookies, meanwhile, need a day to shake off the winter cobwebs and get up to speed. 

MotoGP Is Back - Three-Day Sepang Shakedown Test Kicks Off

The 2025 MotoGP is about to get underway. Or rather, the first inkling that MotoGP will one day return is about to appear. On Friday January 31st, Saturday February 1st, and Sunday February 2nd, the Sepang International Circuit will host the traditional shakedown test, ahead of the official IRTA test which starts on Wednesday February 6th.

There is no official coverage of the shakedown test. Originally, the shakedown test was a way to allow the test riders a chance to check that all of the machines brought to the official Sepang test are working properly, and to gather data on the conditions at the track. But as testing has been restricted over the years, and as MotoGP's concessions system has been refined, MotoGP rookies and contracted riders for manufacturers with concessions have also been allowed to join the fray.
