2025 MotoGP Season Preview - The Subplots Are What Make The Story

By David Emmett | Wed, 26/Feb/2025 - 22:37

In many ways, the 2025 MotoGP championship promises to be one of the more interesting in recent years. Perhaps not the most closely contested - the general consensus among fans and pundits alike is that you can take your pick of whether it will be Pecco Bagnaia or Marc Márquez who ends up lifting the 2025 MotoGP crown - but behind the title fight, there are some fascinating developments to watch out for.

We may as well start with that title battle. The dominance of Ducati was so great last year that it is hard to imagine anyone other than Marc Márquez or Pecco Bagnaia walking off with the title. Despite the fact that they are sticking with their GP24 engine - a little more on that later - both Bagnaia and Márquez showed pace during the test, Márquez' race simulation at Buriram almost fast enough to win a sprint race.

Fermín Aldeguer Confirmed At Gresini Through 2026, Gresini Extends With Ducati Through 2026

By David Emmett | Wed, 28/Aug/2024 - 08:13

The final piece of the Ducati puzzle has fallen into place for the 2025 season. Today, Gresini and Ducati confirmed that Fermín Aldeguer will be racing for the Gresini Ducati squad on board a GP24 for next season.

Ducati had already announced they had signed Fermín Aldeguer back in March, before the Portuguese GP at Portimão. But the question of where Aldeguer would ride had been left open all season. That question was complicated further when Pramac decided to leave Ducati and become Yamaha's second factory-supported team. That led to a period of intense reshuffling, with Aldeguer eventually landing at Gresini, once the VR46 team seats filled up.

Monday MotoGP Link Dump: Aldeguer In, Martin Out At Pramac, Bagnaia's Potential Teammate, And Barcelona Gets A Facelift

By David Emmett | Sun, 17/Mar/2024 - 22:40

The first MotoGP round of the 2024 season gave the MotoGP media plenty to get their teeth into, and gave teams and factories plenty of data to pour into their simulations and models to see what they got wrong and find ways to improve things. With so much to pore over, there was little time or appetite for things other than racing.

But in the week since, there have been one or two things worth noting. So here's a few links of things worth your while.

The second domino to fall

Sepang MotoGP Thursday Round Up: Martin vs Bastianini, Replacing Marquez, And Aprilia's Banned Starting Aid

By David Emmett | Thu, 09/Nov/2023 - 22:27

As the MotoGP title battle hots up, it is the small things which could end up making the difference. After Buriram, Pecco Bagnaia flew back to Italy to continue training at the ranch, and to prepare. Jorge Martin stayed out in Bali, to stay acclimatized to the tropical heat, and to avoid jet lag. "I decided to stay here because normally I struggle with jet lag, so I thought it would be a good option to stay here and get used to the conditions and train in the heat," he told the press conference.

These are the margins by which close championships are lost and won. But it is wrong to say that Martin's approach is better than Bagnaia's, or vice versa. The right approach will be the one taken by the rider who ends up claiming the 2023 MotoGP crown. As so much of motorcycle racing happens between the rider's ears, the right approach is whatever works at the time. Unfortunately, you only find out what works after the season is done. Hindsight is always 20/20.

There was a downside to staying in Indonesia, Martin admitted. "I think this week off I had too much time to think about everything," the Pramac Ducati rider said. "I prefer to race straight away because I had the feeling." The fear is always that you lose the momentum you had in a week off.

MotoGP Friday Link Dump: Repsol Replacement Rumor Mill, And Future MotoGP Rules

By David Emmett | Fri, 03/Nov/2023 - 21:20

It isn't just the riders and teams who need a rest after a triple header of flyaways. Your humble MotoGP writer also had to finally give in to fatigue and have a day off in the middle of the week. Hence the website being a little quieter than I had hoped.
