Cormac Shoots The Sachsenring: A Waterfall Full Of Surprises At The German GP, Part 2

By David Emmett | Fri, 12/Jul/2024 - 11:25

Champ. Pecco Bagnaia did the business at the Sachsenring, with a little help from his main rival Jorge Martin

It didn't last

Franco Morbidelli had a strong race on Sunday at the Sachsenring, clashing with the Marquez brothers

Brothers, teammates, podium finishers. Marc and Alex Marquez in Parc Fermé

Aprilia had a really strong outing at the Sachsenring. Maverick Viñales couldn't match the Trackhouse riders though

"Motorcycle racing is easy, they just sit on their bikes all day." Fabio Quartararo demonstrates that looks deceive when it comes to sitting down

Highside on Friday, podium on Sunday. Good weekend for Marc Marquez

It's a long way down the hill

LA-based artist Alexandra Grant is a massive MotoGP fan, and really wanted to attend a race. Her partner Keanu Reeves got to wave the finish flag

On Saturday, Pecco Bagnaia led the way but came up short. Things turned out better on Sunday

A lot to see here. Obviously the lower wings on the KTM's carbon-fiber swingarm. But also the tire temperature sensors just above the opening for the chain.
The axle is right at the back of the swingarm, maxing out bike length. Jack Miller told us he wanted a longer swingarm to make the bike longer

Luca Marini playing peek-a-boo

Pedro Acosta sizing up Franco Morbidelli in Friday practice

Acosta has plenty of style, even if his season has stalled in the last couple of races

Coming through. One of many riders Marc Marquez would pass

It is hard to get a sense for just how steep the hill is after the final corner. The further down pit lane your garage is, the less time you get to look at your pit board

A good day for Team Gresini

Up and over. Sums up a lot of the Sachsenring

In Germany, Alex Marquez showed why he deserved the two-year contract extension he signed at Assen

Pretty fast for a guy with bruised ribs and a broken finger

Acosta "drop off"

I wonder if KTM have asked Pedro to ease up a bit and just focus more on the usual rookie task of learning.  It's clear now he will be a star and has proven all he needs to at this point.  It would be a damn shame for him to keep going balls out before he's had a MGP race at each track and suffer a major injury due to inexperience and over exuberance.

Quite possible I'm totally wrong.  Racers want to race, but Acosta seems very mature and savvy and might go with such a plan.
