Cormac Shoots The Red Bull Ring: The Mountains Create Something Special In Austria

By David Emmett | Thu, 22/Aug/2024 - 12:00

The Austrian summer means that the little fluffy clouds become big fluffy clouds become giant dark threatening clouds become hail and thunderstorms which lash the circuit

MotoGP dodged a bullet though. The weather stayed dry for both the sprint race on Saturday and the grand prix on Sunday

When in Rome...

Johann Zarco is consistently the fastest Honda rider, and has worked hard on giving feedback and developing the Honda RC213V. But you sense his patience is starting to wear wafer thin...

Yamahas. Behind. Enough said.

Dani Pedrosa, key figure in the development of the KTM RC16. They had a better weekend in Austria, but there is still a long way to go.

Alex Marquez. Going...

Gone in the sprint race

Trackhouse Team Principal Davide Brivio spent all weekend explaining why the team chose Ai Ogura over Joe Roberts

Still the best looking livery on the grid

The evolution of braking styles. Aleix Espargaro works hard to keep everything in line...

Maverick Viñales tentatively uses a leg to balance the bike on corner entry...

And Jorge Martin waves his leg around as far as possible from the bike to find traction and balance the bike on braking for corner entry

Another style comparison. Marc Marquez, once radical, is now the median MotoGP rider when it comes to body position on the bike.

Jorge Martin is at one extreme, getting his body further off the bike to the inside

Aleix Espargaro is old school, never quite getting his body as far off the bike as his rivals. But he still finds a way to be fast.

And Pol Espargaro has worked to change his style to be further off the bike.

King of the Red Bull Ring, Pecco Bagnaia

Marco Bezzecchi had a very solid weekend in Austria. Here he stops to speak to a GT3 driver.

An Alpine meadow and the roar of exploding gasoline

So fast the camera can't capture him

The prettiest helmet design on the grid. Distinctive too.

Not what Pedro Acosta wanted at Spielberg. Reset and start again

Some backdrop for racing

The bike and rider action photos are just so incredibly good, especially the rider position shots - that's detail we haven't seen before. Thanks Cormac - I would love to know what you are shooting with - that looks lilke some high end stuff.
