Cormac Shoots The Post-Season MotoGP Test: New Riders, New Challenges

By David Emmett | Fri, 22/Nov/2024 - 17:41

Welcome to Aprilia champ. Jorge Martin looked comfortable enough on the RS-GP during the test

Redder than a red thing. Marc Marquez went all in on red at the test

Honda is not a place for smiles at the moment, but that won't stop the irrepressible Somkiat Chantra

KTM were doing a lot of aero testing, with different color fairings. And no, this is not Augusto Fernandez. Pedro Acosta has taken his old number #37 now that Augusto Fernandez has turned test rider

Speaking of test riders: Michele Pirro doing a shakedown of Pecco Bagnaia's bike. Pirro is the foundation Ducati have built their recent success on

Franco Morbidelli switches garages, and dons the garish leathers of the VR46 team for 2025. He stays on a GP24

Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi had one '24 Aprilia RS-GP and one '25 prototype. Here's Martin on the '24 bike

Different factories have different agreements when their riders leave. Ducati held Enea Bastianini to his contracts, so the Italian rode the Red Bull KTM Tech3 bike without any branding on it. Which was good, as he also managed to completely destroy a bike

By contrast, Maverick Viñales was in full Red Bull KTM regalia. Aprilia were a lot more relaxed about letting him go.

Black helmet for Joan Mir, as he changes brands for 2025. The factory Honda rider was less than impressed with what HRC had brought to the test

The other rookie - Ai Ogura, in at the deep end with Trackhouse Aprilia

Marco Bezzecchi's leathers looked as good as his riding on the Aprilia RS-GP

Fermin Aldeguer took Marc Marquez' place in the Gresini Ducati garage, on a brand new Ducati GP24, in roughly the same spec as Pecco Bagnaia has been racing in the second half of the year

Pedro Acosta had new exhausts and a new tail section to test, which looked like it was aimed at changing the center of mass of the KTM RC16

Marini calling. Luca Marini, like Joan Mir, has a microphone on his chair for the HRC engineers to listen in, and a handheld mic to talk to the people in the garage

When Johann Zarco walked out of KTM, he picked up a reputation for not managing his emotions. He has learned so much in the intervening years. At LCR Honda, he has turned into consistently the best rider on a Honda RC213V

Not waving but drowning

Brad Binder spent his day working on electronics more than aero

I will be sending that photo of Martin to everyone I know - what an illustration of the brilliance of GP pilots.

Also have to mention that photo of MM - there have been several comments from the Mutterers on the Redness of this image. You captured it so brilliantly. I am seeking retina therapy for my red vision as a result.

Think of Bagnaia all in white (cool, calm and fast) as the good angel on Ducati's right shoulder whispering in their ear. Think of Marquez  all in red (aggressive, assertive and fast) as the bad angel on the left shoulder screaming in Ducati's ear. Whose advice will Ducati take?
