Advice on Barcelona welcomed

Hi All,

Well I'm getting excited because I'm going to be in Barcelona and wouldn't you believe it, there's a MotoGP event on while I'm there (hint - no accident!). :D

I don't want to get a hire car, so am looking at where to stay and how to get to the circuit.  The missus is vaguely interested in MotoGP but would rather just sit on a beach or bumble around Barca for the three days.

Anyone been there or have any hot tips?  It looks like staying in central Barcelona is perhaps the best for me since the missus will be in town to do whatever she likes.  It would be easier closer to the track but maybe not so good for her, and we'll be there for a week and would prefer to stay at one place.  In the city makes it easier for touristy dithering before and after the race weekend.

There appears to be an hourly train that goes from Barcelona-Arc De Triomf to Parets Del Vallés which is only a 2.5km walk to the track.  Being from Australia where public transport usually sucks, I've no idea whether that would be reliable, or even available due to overcrowding with a million Spaniards going to the track.  A taxi or uber is an option and I presume easily available in spite of being race weekend, if a bit pricey twice a day.  Bus can get you closer but is over an hour and again, probably saturated?  My brief investigation so far does not indicate any event-specific public transport which seems a bit weird.  Big footy matches and the like here usually get a heap of government busses from nearby interchanges direct to the stadium.  Anyone know of something similar there?

Anyhow, anyone with any experience I'd love to hear it.

Cheers

Steve aka Breganzane

I was only an occasional visitor and even more infrequent poster to the old forums (more just lurking in the comments section of the main site) but it seems that the renovation of the site early this year has really killed the forum section.  That is not in reference to not getting a response to the above - it was a long shot anyway - but generally it seems the forums are dead?

Yes I've been there once. No useful advice, sorry.

It seemed like a long way from downtown Barcelona to the circuit. We had a bus as part of a package.

Don't miss la Sagrada Familia while you are there. Its a nice stack of masonry. There is a beach or beaches, beware the nudies. Skate park as well near a beach.

The trains are good. But I didn't try a train to the track.

Once you get there the circuit seems to be divided into sections with fences. "Mirador; no you can't get there from here" "go through the tunnel, down to the other end of the straight, use the other tunnel to cross over, then try coming back on the far side." That Senor was trying to help!

Good luck Breganzane.

Have fun Steve, regards Steve Apical, sorry about  Assen 2019 my bad.  Being from Australia where public transport usually sucks I jumped on the train to Schipol that was there. Rather than wait forever.

Bus, and the Corte Ingles (for Mrs Breganzane)

We've been a few times (a bit easier from London!) and have used the Sagales bus which runs from Barcelona to the track each day.  Details here: https://www.circuitcat.com/en/arrive-montmelo/   It was pretty efficient and quick.  Plenty of buses so no need to queue for hours.  For Mrs Breganzane, if she cares to do some shopping in the Plaza de Catalunya Corte Ingles department store, there's a cafe on the top floor with spectacular views across the city.  We usually stay in the Travelodge in Poblenou.  Cheap and cheerful.  Restaurants and beach nearby.  You can walk into the centre from there easily enough, or the Metro is close.  Hope you have a great time!

Take the train

Did it once way back when, took the train from Barcelona and then walked the rest of the way there together with thousands of others. Don’t remember the duration of the walk but it was nice being amongst all these likeminded folks. It ‘s too long ago to remember the train station we disembarked, sorry!

The forums are not dead for me personally, but definitely lacking some substance without the commentary participation of Motoshrink and Jinx. I miss those guys.

Have a wonderful trip to Barcelona, Steve. A city I would like to visit sometime in the future.
