2025 Portimão WorldSBK January Test Day 1 Times: Razgatlioglu Back On Top

By David Emmett | Tue, 28/Jan/2025 - 17:40

Toprak Razgatlioglu ended the first day of the Portimão WorldSBK test as fastest on his first day back in the saddle of his BMW M1000RR. Despite an injured right index finger, which he hurt in a training crash and which forced him to wear a special glove, the reigning world champion mastered rather tricky conditions, with a lot of wind and a track that was still damp in patches, to just nip ahead of Bimota's Axel Bassani.

Bassani was just under three hundredths of a second off the best time set by Razgatlioglu late in the day, and seven hundredths faster than Nicolo Bulega on the factory Aruba.it Ducati. Remy Gardner had a good day on the GYTR Yamaha bike, a thousandth slower than 2024 championship runner up Bulega and a third of a second faster than Jonathan Rea on the Pata Yamaha. Rea was more competitive on Tuesday, ending the day in fifth, with Garrett Gerloff sixth quickest on the Kawasaki ZX-10RR.

The test continues tomorrow, before the WorldSBK paddock wraps up and heads to Phillip Island for a final test and the first round of 2025.
