2024 Most World Supersport Race One Result: Crashes, Fast Laps And Crashes

By Jared Earle | Sat, 20/Jul/2024 - 14:02

Before the nineteen lap race even started, Jorge Navarro crashed out at turn ten on the sighting lap, dragging his gravel-filled Ducati to the grid.

Yari Montella led into turn one, ahed of Adrian Huertas and Stefano Manzi with Valentin Debise almost passing Manzi for third. The MVs of Federico Caricasulo and Bahattin Sofuoglu rounded out the top six. Four riders crashed into turn one, Anupab Sarmoon, Marcel Brenner, Piotr Biesiekirski and Niccolo Antonelli.

At the start of lap two, Manzi passed the two Ducatis into turn one, leading Huertas and Montella before setting a 1'35.640 fastest lap with Valentin Debise in touch. Huertas took the lead into turn one of lap three as the leading four broke free from the rest of the field. Huertas then set a 1'35.276 in the lead as Bahattin Sofuoglu crashed out on the last turn with a dodgy front mudguard.

After a mistake from Manzi, Huertas had clear track behind him and he set a 1'35.131 on a clean lap four. Montella was pushed off the podium by Debise and, in spite of a mistake a few turns later from Debise, Montella couldn't take third place back.

Lap six, with a fastest lap of 1'35.029, Huertas held a one second lead over Manzi with Montella and Debise fighting over third place two thirds of a second behind. Federico Caricasulo was two seconds further back with Lucas Mahias over a second behind. Clawing back third place, Montella set a fastest lap of 1'34.925 as he fended off Debise.

With his fastest lap, Montella closed on Manzi in second place, bringing Debise with him to start lap eight. Montella took advantage of a hiccup from Manzi to take second place in the first few turns with Debise following him through.

Niccolo Antonelli returned to the race five laps down with the intention of setting a fast lap for grid position for race two.

Simone Corsi and Tom Edwards joined the long list of crashers at half race distance after crashing out together, contesting the same apex. Adrian Huertas led by almost three seconds with Yari Montella leading the battle between Stefano Manzi and Valentin Debise as the Yamahas swapped back and forth.

Stefano Manzi set a 1'34.834 fastest lap in third place as he closed on second-placed Montella, over three seconds off Huertas. Manzi made a very bold pass into turn two on lap sixteen that pushed himself and Montella wide, giving Manzi second place and letting Debise past for third place as Montella ended up in fourth place.

At the start of the last lap, Debise almost took second place from Manzi into turn one, two and three, but later in the lap, Debise, Manzi and Montella swapped places with Debise holding second place as Montella fluffed the penultimate turn to give the last podium spot to Manzi.

Adrian Huertas took the win by almost four seconds over Valentin Debise and Stefano Manzi with Yari. Montella missing out on the podium. Eleven seconds later, Federico Caricasulo led Lucas Mahias by over two seconds. Jorge Navarro, in spite of another crash, set a quick lap on the last lap in eighteenth place, giving himself a good grid position for tomorrow.

With his win, Adrian Huertas extended his championship lead to thirty seven points over fourth-placed Yari Montella with Stefano Manzi just eleven points further back.

Stefano Manzi set the fastest lap and will, start race two in pole position ahead of Yari Montella and Adrian Huertas. Valentin Debise heads the second row alongside Glenn van Straalen and Jorge Navarro.
