The last race of the year for World Supersport had Federico Caricasulo and Can Oncu starting a the front after recording fast laps yesterday.
Can Oncu opened the race in the lead ahead of Stefano Manzi and Valentin Debise only to crash out on his own into turn nine. Stefano Manzi took over the lead ahead of Valentine Debise, Adrian Huertas, Federico Caricasulo, Yari Montella and Bo Bendsneyder. Lorenzo Baldassarri crashed out on lap two.
Huertas set a 1'42.985 fastest lap before nearly ploughing into the back of Debise, but he recovered ahead of Caricasulo.
Bendsneyder climbed to fifth and hounded Caricasulo until he could pass when Caricasulo went wide in turn six to take fourth. At the start of lap five, the top nine were all in touch with each other.
At the start of lap eight, Manzi led Debise by a quarter of a second, the pair glued together lap after lap as they escaped from Huertas three quarters of a second behind them.
Federico Caricasulo crashed out at turn six and he struggled to get restarted, putting Tom Booth-Amos into fifteenth place after starting from the back of the grid. At the start of lap eleven, Huertas was eight tenths off second-placed Debise with Bendsneyder within a quarter of a second behind him.
Tom Edwards crashed out, giving Simone Corsi the Supersport Challenge title.
With four laps remaining, Stefano Manzi led Valentin Debise by half a second with Adrian Huertas and Bo Bendsneyder on the MV Agusta almost a second behind them. Marcel Schroetter led Yari Montella in fifth and sixth places. Seventh placed Jorge Navarro had a pesky Lucas Mahias on his tail behind him.
Bendsneyder took advantage of a mistake from Huertas into turn six, possibly a shoulder fitness issue, to take third place from him. Lap fifteen, Debise tried to pass Manzi but he went wide around turn six, entering too deep, giving Manzi half a second of breathing space. Bendsneyder closed half a second on Debise, getting to under three quarters of a second of second place.
Manzi started the last lap under seven tenths of a second from Debise, but Bendsneyder closed to within half a second of Debise with Huertas almost two seconds behind the fight over podium places.
None of the leading trio made a mistake on the last lap so they finished in the order they started the lap with Stefano Manzi winning ahead of Valentin Debise and Bo Bendsneyder. Adrian Huertas cruised in over two and a half seconds later for a lonely fourth place.
Stefano Manzi said goodbye to the Yamaha R6 between fistfuls of Pata crisps, saying it was still competitive.
Adrian Huertas was crowned champion yesterday, Manzi secured second place ahead of Yari Montella and today Valentin Debise claimed fourth place ahead of Marcel Schroetter. Federico Caricaslulo's lack of points scoring meant he conceded sixth place to Jorge Navarro.
