2024 Barcelona Solidarity Moto3 Qualifying Result: Stealing One Last Lap Record

By Zara Daniela | Sat, 16/Nov/2024 - 12:51

Although the world title has been thoroughly celebrated by now, David Alonso was still keen to secure a seventh Tissot watch of the season, to make sure that none of his mechanics felt left out. And he did so by immediately threatening the all-time lap record with his first flying lap – a time that one else even came close to for the rest of the session. The Colombian enjoyed an advantage of nearly four tenths of a second at the top of the pile, until Collin Veijer reduced it slightly on his final qualifying lap. Although pole was out of reach, the Dutchman demoted rival Ivan Ortola to third and has the upper hand in the fight for second in the championship.

Angel Piqueras ends his rookie season with 4th position on the grid, ahead of compatriot Dani Holgado, whose second row start still keeps him in the game for second in the standings. Luca Lunetta also kept close to the limelight in 6th place, while Adrian Fernandez was lucky to keep 7th after a late crash at turn five. Taiyo Furusato recovered well from his Q1 adventure, climbing as high as 8th and sharing third row with rookie Jacob Roulstone.

After headlining Q1, Tatsuki Suzuki completed the top 10 in Q2, starting ahead of Stefano Nepa and David Muñoz on the fourth row. David Almansa, Joel Kelso and Ryusei Yamanaka share the fifth row, with Scott Ogden, Matteo Bertelle and Jose Antonio Rueda in row six. Wildcard Alvaro Carpe was very close to his first Q2, only missing out by three hundredths of a second and making his grand prix debut from 19th on the grid.
