2024 Aragon World Supersport Superpole Result: New Lap Record On Hard Tyres

By Jared Earle | Sat, 28/Sep/2024 - 09:26

World Superbike Superpole welcomed back Jonathan Rea and Toprak Razgatlioglu after they missed the Cremona round through injuries. In spite of plenty of crashes yesterday, nobody missed the session.

On the standard SCX tyres, Michael van der Mark set the first fast lap, a 1'48.699 ahead Garrett Gerloff and Scott Redding, but after everyone set a single lap, Andrea Iannone held the top spot with a 1'48.208 with Alvaro Bautista and Nicolo Bulega formation flying behind him. The top six were covered by two tenths of a second as riders pitted in for new tyres and a cup of tea.

Nicolo Bulega and Danilo Petrucci headed out to the empty track first with Alex Lowes joining them. Bulega and Petrucci started their fresh lap with under four minutes left in the session, with Petrucci tailing Bulega, but even getting a tow from the man in front of him, last weekend's triple winner couldn't match Bulega's new lap record of 1'47.840. Other riders were unable to improve on their first quick lap and Bulega led by over a third of a second as the flag came out. Alex Lowes crashed at turn five, but nobody was affected by the brief yellow flags as everyone struggled to improve on their first quick laps.

Nicolo Bulega took pole position with a lap record and three more Ducatis behind him, with the front row rounded out by Andrea Iannone and Alvaro Bautista. Danilo Petrucci headed the second row with Toprak Razgatlioglu and Alex Lowes alongside him. Andrea Locatelli, Sam Lowes and Iker Lecuona set up the third row for this afternoon's race.

This is the first all-Ducati top four qualifying since 2004. Alvaro Bautista's new hair colour gave him his first front row Superpole of the year.
